Chairman’s Foreword and CEO’s Review

Chairman’s Foreword

More than 40 years ago, Yayasan Sime Darby was established not merely to give, but to transform. Today, YSD stands as a testament to what is possible when commitment outlasts trends, purpose guides every decision, and people remain at the heart of everything we do.

As a foundation, our mandate is clear: to serve communities with care and responsibility. As Chairman, I am pleased to report that this mandate continues to guide the Foundation's work, even as the environment in which we operate becomes increasingly complex and demanding.

Over the year, the Governing Council remained focused on the prudent stewardship of the Foundation's resources and the alignment of our programmes with YSD's purpose. We strengthened governance, enhanced risk management, and sharpened our approach to measuring impact, while building organisational capabilities and strategic focus to ensure YSD remains effective, relevant, and positioned to deliver lasting change.

The outcomes highlighted in this report reflect years of thoughtful investment, trusted partnerships and disciplined stewardship. They are a testament not only to the programmes we support, but also to the strength of the governance, accountability and institutional foundations that enable us to deliver impact responsibly and sustainably. This commitment has strengthened trust in YSD's ability to deliver impact.

This trust is reflected in the Ministry of Finance's continued confidence in Yayasan Sime Darby. Since our collaboration began in 2021, the partnership has grown steadily, culminating in YSD receiving its highest level of funding under Belanjawan 2025. This milestone affirms our track record of delivering meaningful outcomes and strengthens our responsibility to create lasting value for the communities we serve.

On behalf of the YSD Governing Council, I extend my sincere appreciation to the management team, our donors, partners, and all those who contribute to YSD's mission. Your unwavering dedication, generosity, and commitment are the driving force behind the meaningful impact we create together.

As we look ahead, YSD is entering an important new chapter. Building on a strong legacy and supported by capable people and enduring partnerships, we are well positioned to deepen our impact, expand our reach, and pursue innovative solutions to society's evolving challenges. Anchored by our values and guided by a clear sense of purpose, we remain committed to being a responsible and effective force for good, creating meaningful and lasting impact for generations to come.

CEO’s Review

At Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD), our focus is clear – to ensure that our work delivers meaningful impact for the communities we serve, while upholding the trust placed in us.

The past year has been a significant one for YSD, as we continued to build on our strengths while navigating preparations for the changes ahead. Under Belanjawan 2025, YSD was entrusted by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) with its highest allocation to date since 2021, reflecting the confidence in our ability to deliver programmes at scale, and reinforces the responsibility we carry to ensure impact is achieved with accountability and consistency.

A key priority during the year was the rollout of the YSD SEPAKAT Programme. This initiative required our full focus on strengthening community-led development within selected People’s Housing Programme (PPR) communities. Through SEPAKAT, we are working closely with Residents’ Associations and local leaders, supporting them with the capacity and empowerment needed to build more resilient and self-sustaining communities.

At the same time, we continued the implementation of the SINAR Programme, which remains an important platform for addressing social challenges, including teenage pregnancies and autism. Building on this, we expanded the programme to support neurodivergent youth, with a stronger emphasis on economic participation.

Beyond these initiatives in collaboration with MOF under our Community & Health pillar, we maintained our focus on delivering across all our five pillars – Education, Environment, Community & Health, Sports and Arts & Culture. Guided by our purpose of advancing lives and strengthening communities, we ensure that YSD’s programmes are relevant, targeted, and capable of delivering meaningful and lasting outcomes.

Under Education, we continued our commitment to the Sekolah Angkat initiative, guided by our belief that education is a catalyst for lasting positive change. This year, we focused on enhancing learning environments and creating greater opportunities for students to thrive.

In Sports, we continued our long-standing commitment to the development of Malaysian cycling, reflecting our belief in the power of sport to nurture discipline, resilience and excellence. Through the YSD Track and BMX Series, we have provided aspiring cyclists with valuable opportunities to develop their skills, gain competitive exposure and progress within the sport. We are encouraged by the growth of the programme and remain committed to strengthening Malaysia’s sporting talent pipeline for the future.

Under Arts & Culture, we were proud to support Setanggi Tari Melayu in 2025, a production that showcased the richness and diversity of traditional Malay dance. By bringing classical and folk traditions to the stage, the programme helped preserve and celebrate Malaysia’s cultural heritage while fostering greater appreciation among wider audiences.

Our commitment to the Environment pillar extended beyond programme funding. Through YSD World Environment Day 2026, we brought volunteers together to drive environmental action, foster greater awareness, and reinforce the role that individuals can play in protecting our natural environment. The initiative reflected our belief that lasting environmental impact is achieved through collective action and active community participation.

In this Annual Report, we are pleased to highlight a number of initiatives that have delivered meaningful outcomes for communities and the environment, reflecting our commitment to creating positive and sustainable change. As our portfolio continues to grow in scale and complexity, we have strengthened our internal capabilities in programme delivery, monitoring and evaluation to ensure that we remain effective, accountable, and disciplined in delivering on our mission.

Our sincere appreciation goes to our Governing Council, donor companies, partners, volunteers, and the YSD team, whose dedication and shared purpose make our work possible. Together, we have continued to create opportunities, strengthen communities, and protect the environment. I am pleased to present this Annual Report, which reflects the progress we have made and the responsibility we carry into the future.

Thank you for your continued trust.
