From school courts to international competition, Yayasan Sime Darby’s collaboration with the Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation is strengthening the future of lawn bowls in Malaysia. The programme expands access at the school level through Jack ke Sekolah, while elevating national women athletes through greater international exposure; together creating a clear pathway from discovery to high-performance sport.
At the grassroots level, Jack ke Sekolah has reached 17 schools, introducing 220 students and 10 teachers to lawn bowls through guided sessions on fundamentals and equipment use. For many, it was their first exposure to the sport; sparking strong enthusiasm, while helping students build focus, confidence, and teamwork.
For MLBF, this early introduction matters because it helps strengthen the sport’s foundation. Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz noted that supporting both athletes and schools creates a more complete ecosystem for lawn bowls, with national players inspiring younger generations while school programmes help uncover future talent. Farah Ain similarly highlighted that grassroots efforts introduce students not only to the sport, but also to values such as discipline, confidence, responsibility, and teamwork.
At the same time, support for national women bowlers to compete in four international tournaments reflects the importance of maintaining momentum at the highest level. Farah Ain described international exposure as an important way for athletes to build confidence, discipline, and mental strength while learning from higher standards of competition. Together, these efforts point to a more connected future for lawn bowls in Malaysia, one that expands opportunities for young people while strengthening the sport’s growth at every level.
